Youth Join Next Year’s Dew Tour

Scott Moline's Fan Club

The Gatorade Free Flow Tour award four snowboarders a place in next year’s Winter Dew Tour as the finals of the Free Flow Tour took place under cold and windy conditions at Mount Snow in Vermont. The snowboarders took to the professional sized slope course first with very little hesitation. A course that was much bigger than any course in which they qualified by winning one of ten stops on the GFFT.

On the men’s side, 21 year old Cody Boan from South Park, Colorado threw down hard on his first run scoring an amazing 97.00 that could not be beat. Hitting a cab 7 and a front 540 mixed up with tech tricks on the rails he made the most of his last year of eligibility and looks ready to join the big guys next year. A couple of northeasters took second and third places on the podium. Ian Hart, 19, from the Granite State scored a very respectable 94.00 while Alexander Rodway from Maine had a clean run and scored a 91.00.

Taylor Owen must have felt right at home in the very windy conditions and under the pressure of her second run edged out Elle Kaylor from Mammoth Lakes, California with a 98.00 to Elle’s 95.00. Mary Rand from Rhode Island run on the course got her a 92.25.

Under the twilight of the day the Superpipe competition took place with the girls getting first crack at the pipe. From all the way on the other coast, Summer Fenton from San Francisco had two solid runs and scored a 92.00 with a stylish indie, backside 540 and a front 5. 14 year old Kirby Kelly took the next place on the podium with a 75.00 and Australian amber Arazny scored a 72.50 and the final spot on the podium.

On the young men’s side 16 year old Scott Moline blasted a huge frontside air, a front 9 right into a back 540 and a cab 7 to score a 92.50 well above the rest of the field. Coming in second was one of the youngest of competitors, Kyle Mack, who crashed on his first run cracking his helmet and completed his final run with a borrowed helmet and a score of 81.75. Not bad at all for a kid that will be on the Dew Tour long before his eligibility runs out. Rounding out the top three was Mark Speicher from Salt Lake City, Utah, who was able to score an 80.00 on his first run through the pipe.

All in all, every one of the competitors in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour finals should take a bow. Just to make the finals is a great achievement and to compete on the same courses that the professionals did just days before says that it won’t be long before they will be taking the next steps to fulfilling the dream of being professional snowboarders.
